Guidelines to Sponsors
Letters and Gifts
We strongly encourage you to write to your child. This will create an important bond between you and your child, as well as help with their literacy and communication skills. You might want to write about church, school or work, customs or traditions, or favorite pastimes. You may write to your child as often as you wish. Your child will love receiving a picture of your family!
When you write to your child, it is suggested that you avoid talking in detail about your possessions, which may point out differences between you and your child. It is also suggested that you avoid using language or terms your child will not understand.
Please do not invite your child to visit you in the United States.
It is possible to write directly to your child at the address below. On each page of your letter, please write your child's name and COG ID number to help the staff in Uganda.
Send your letter to:

Alamo, CA 94507Please also use this for the return address. It is important that your child does not know your home address.
Sending packages to your child - is this advised?
COG understands that many of you may wish to send special gifts to your child. We have found through experience that individual gifts to the children cause problems on several levels. The distribution is cumbersome for the staff in Uganda. Plus, the inequity of the gifts and the lack of gifts for all create problems in the homes and often single out the orphans who are so desperately trying to fit in. COG will notify you when our volunteers visit Uganda. You may want to send a letter to your child through COG, and we will attempt to hand-deliver your note, along with a smile and a hug for your child.
Letters from your child
When you sponsor a child, you will receive a picture and profile of your child. COG will forward any letters received from your child. We make every attempt to have sponsored children send a card to their sponsor during the holidays; however, we cannot guarantee this. It is our experience that when children receive letters from their sponsors, they are anxious to reply and express their gratitude for your support.
Monetary Gifts
Special monetary gifts will be gratefully received by COG to enhance the services that are already provided to the orphans or to purchase supplies that will benefit all of the children directly.
COG is dedicated to meeting the needs of HIV/AIDS orphans. From improving current school facilities and feeding hungry orphans, to improving health and sanitary conditions, COG is committed to helping these special children. We need your help! Learn more about how you can support such programs through special or ongoing monetary gifts.
Please do not send any checks or money orders directly to Uganda. They cannot be cashed in Uganda and will be destroyed by the staff there. Contact Sue Garrett, Child Sponsorship Coordinator at with questions.
