About Children of Grace
Every 14 seconds, a child is orphaned by AIDS. More than 15 million children around the world have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. Children of Grace was founded in 2001 by Mary Ann McCoy in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It began by sponsoring one orphan, and today we are sending more than 550 children to school and indirectly impacting the lives of more than 1,000 children in Uganda.
The first priority of Children of Grace is the welfare of the total child. This holistic approach includes sponsorship of school tuition and supplies, health evaluations and follow-up treatment.

About Our Founder - Mary Ann McCoy
Mary Ann McCoy founded Children of Grace in 2001 in response to the 2 million children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Uganda. A mother herself, McCoy was deeply affected by a young Ugandan widow of AIDS, Grace Talitwala, who worried about who would care for her young children after her own death from AIDS. With Grace's inspiration, the goal of COG became to raise awareness and financial support for children affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Uganda.
McCoy works exhaustively to provide educational support to children that would not otherwise be able to attend school. All schools in Uganda require tuition, uniforms and pencils. Because so many have died of AIDS, no one has the resources to take on the additional burden of the orphaned child's education. In the short time since its creation, COG has secured the educational sponsorship of nearly 500 Ugandan orphans.
McCoy has her BSN from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a hospital nurse for more than 15 years and also worked as an instructor of nursing. She encountered her first AIDS patient in 1982 and was deeply affected by the hopelessness and isolation of the disease. Today, McCoy devotes her time and her heart to providing hope, joy and a future to children orphaned by AIDS in Uganda.
